Description
Sunflowers are giant beautiful flowers. Helianthus annuus is a genus of plants comprising of 70 different species. Most are native to North and Central America. This one was planted in Oklahoma. The flower gets it's name because of the round flower head combined with the ligules look like the sun. They are often cultivated for their seeds or food. This species typically grows during the summer and into early spring. It would make a perfect gift to hang in someone’s house. Sunflowers are huge cheery flowers that would brighten up any space. Looks especially good in a sunflower themed kitchen, patio area or bathroom. And while most photographs focus on the entire flower I wanted to focus on just the middle. This is a macro photo of pollen on a sunflower. Details in nature: chaff, disc floret, ovary.
